The festive season, a period synonymous with joyous celebrations and the delightful anticipation of thoughtful gifts and new wardrobes, is fast approaching. Amidst the flurry of preparations, a unique opportunity arises to embrace the artistry and heritage of India’s indigenous crafts. The Crafts Council of India (CCI) proudly announces the return of Craftpreneur, a prestigious exhibition set to captivate discerning patrons after a six-year hiatus. This highly anticipated event promises a curated collection of exquisite creations from 20 brands spanning the length and breadth of the country, each a testament to the enduring legacy of Indian craftsmanship.
A Legacy Reimagined: Craftpreneur’s Grand Comeback
Craftpreneur 2026 marks a significant milestone, not only for the Crafts Council of India but also for the artisans and brands it champions. The exhibition, which had to be temporarily paused due to the unprecedented challenges posed by the global pandemic, is now poised for a triumphant resurgence. Lakshmi Vijayaraghavan, a distinguished member of the Craft Council of India, elaborates on the journey leading to this much-awaited revival.
"The pandemic necessitated a pause in our regular programming," Vijayaraghavan explains. "Following the global health crisis, our focus shifted towards other textile shows organized by CCI. However, the vision to bring Craftpreneur back never wavered. We were committed to finding a venue that would not only accommodate our vision but also enhance the intimate and focused experience that defines Craftpreneur. We believe in showcasing a select group of brands, allowing their unique essence and craftsmanship to truly shine. This year, with the exception of established names like Minimal Indian and Boriya Basta, all participating brands are making their debut with the Craft Council of India, a testament to the evolving landscape of Indian craft and entrepreneurship."
The strategic decision to limit the number of participating brands underscores Craftpreneur’s commitment to quality over quantity. This curated approach ensures that each brand receives ample attention and that visitors can engage deeply with the stories and artistry behind every creation. The exhibition aims to foster a genuine appreciation for the intricate processes, cultural narratives, and sustainable practices that underpin Indian handicrafts.
A Tapestry of Talent: Diverse Crafts and Artisan Groups
Craftpreneur 2026 will present a breathtaking array of products, meticulously crafted by artisans from diverse regions and working with a multitude of traditional techniques. From the vibrant hues of children’s apparel and the intricate designs adorning home decor to the timeless elegance of textiles and the earthy charm of pottery, the exhibition will offer a comprehensive spectrum of Indian artistry. Visitors can anticipate discovering treasures from brands like Malaiyyo, renowned for its exquisite jewellery; Mudpie Pottery, showcasing artisanal ceramics; Vama, presenting a collection of elegant saris; and Earthsongs, offering a range of captivating apparel.

"Our curatorial approach always involves a delicate balance between established brands that have a proven track record and emerging ventures that are making their mark on the industry," Vijayaraghavan notes. "We are observing a growing trend of conscious consumers who are actively seeking to reconnect with their roots and explore the rich tapestry of Indian craft. This shift in consumer sentiment is incredibly encouraging and fuels our commitment to providing a platform where these artisans and their creations can flourish."
This emphasis on a diverse and evolving craft ecosystem reflects a broader societal movement towards mindful consumption and an appreciation for heritage. Craftpreneur 2026 serves as a vital nexus, bridging the gap between traditional artistry and contemporary market demands, while simultaneously empowering artisans and fostering sustainable livelihoods.
Stories Woven in Fabric: Spotlight on Participating Brands
The essence of Craftpreneur lies in the individual stories of the brands and the artisans who bring them to life. Each participating entity at Craftpreneur 2026 carries a unique narrative, rooted in cultural heritage, innovation, and a deep respect for traditional crafts.
Whitewater Kids: Poetic Inspiration for Little Ones and Beyond
Kolkata-based Whitewater Kids, a brainchild of sisters Shweta and Ankita Dhariwal, exemplifies the creative fusion of poetry and fashion. Their unisex apparel for children and women is deeply inspired by literary narratives, imbuing each collection with a distinct charm and intellectual depth.
"Our silhouettes for children are thoughtfully designed, encompassing traditional angrakhas, comfortable kurtas and pyjamas, playful jhablas, and a range of shirts and shorts," shares Shweta. "For women, we offer elegant, free-size kaftans and shirts that embody comfort and style. Our latest collection, ‘Dhruvtara,’ is a poignant tribute to the timeless poem The Story of Dhruvtara, translating its celestial narrative into wearable art."

The Dhariwal sisters collaborate with artisan clusters across Gujarat and West Bengal, alongside a dedicated handloom artisan in Tamil Nadu. Their work champions the exquisite ajrakh technique and intricate hand-embroidery, utilizing a rich palette that spans from deep indigos to vibrant yellows. Beyond apparel, Whitewater Kids also crafts an array of home textiles, including mustard seed pillows, cozy quilts, dohars, and blankets, all of which will be showcased at the exhibition.
Boriya Basta: Preserving the Ancient Art of Kilim Weaving
Deepika Nigam, the visionary behind Boriya Basta in Uttar Pradesh, is a passionate advocate for kilim, an ancient weaving technique with deep historical roots. Her work centers around a small artisan cluster in Khairabad, Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, where this traditional craft continues to thrive.
"At Craftpreneur, I will be presenting a diverse range of products crafted using the kilim technique," Nigam explains. "This includes semi-circle bags, various styles of sling bags, and versatile tote and laptop bags. Complementing these accessories, we will also showcase an array of home decor pieces such as floor rugs, decorative tissue boxes, captivating wall hangings, elegant table runners, and charming coasters. Our signature magazine baskets and other storage solutions, available in various sizes, will also be a prominent feature."
Nigam emphasizes the meticulous process behind each Boriya Basta creation. "All our products are meticulously crafted from 100% cotton yarn. This yarn is first subjected to a traditional tie-dyeing process in varying shades of the same color, a technique that imbues the fabric with a richer, more vibrant, and visually captivating appearance." This dedication to traditional methods, combined with a contemporary aesthetic, makes Boriya Basta’s offerings a unique blend of heritage and modern utility.

A particularly noteworthy creation is our reimagining of 19th-century chintz textiles, rendered in a distinctive Indian color palette."
For the Craftpreneur exhibition, Reddy will be presenting a curated selection of apparel, luxurious shawls, captivating art panels, and intricately designed potlis, each piece a testament to the enduring beauty and versatility of Kalamkari art.

The Dakshin Studio: Celebrating South Indian Textiles Through Jamakkalam
Rama Srinivasan, the founder of Bengaluru-based The Dakshin Studio, is set to illuminate the exhibition with her captivating Jamakkalam edit, a vibrant showcase of South Indian textiles. This year marks a significant milestone as it celebrates the fifth anniversary of the brand’s journey with Jamakkalam.

"The iconic Bhavani Jamakkalam, celebrated for its bold stripes, vibrant color palettes, and its deep-rooted association with the visual culture of South India, has been ingeniously transformed into contemporary bags and lifestyle products," Srinivasan explains. "Our collection at Craftpreneur will feature these reimagined Jamakkalam pieces, bringing a touch of traditional artistry to everyday utility."
The Dakshin Studio’s collection extends beyond Jamakkalam, encompassing double ikat bags inspired by the traditional Telia Rumal technique. These exquisite bags are crafted using handwoven textiles created by weavers from Telangana, showcasing another facet of India’s rich textile heritage. Additionally, the collection includes hand-painted Kalamkari silk bags, meticulously crafted on Kanjeevaram silk, a fabric synonymous with luxury and tradition in South India.
"This collection is truly a celebration of South India, expressed through its diverse and iconic textiles," Srinivasan concludes. "Each textile possesses its own unique history and identity, but when brought together, they weave a larger narrative of the incredible and enduring textile traditions of the South."
Implications for the Craft Ecosystem and Conscious Consumerism
The return of Craftpreneur signifies more than just a shopping event; it represents a renewed commitment to fostering a thriving ecosystem for Indian crafts. The exhibition serves as a crucial platform for artisans to connect directly with consumers, bypassing intermediaries and ensuring fair remuneration for their labor and artistry. This direct engagement not only empowers artisans but also educates consumers about the value and provenance of handmade products.
Furthermore, Craftpreneur 2026 aligns perfectly with the growing global trend of conscious consumerism. As consumers become increasingly aware of the environmental and social impact of their purchasing decisions, they are actively seeking out products that are ethically sourced, sustainably produced, and culturally significant. The brands featured at Craftpreneur embody these principles, offering alternatives to mass-produced goods and promoting a more mindful approach to consumption.

The emphasis on heritage crafts also plays a vital role in preserving traditional knowledge and skills that are at risk of fading away. By providing a contemporary market for these crafts, Craftpreneur ensures their relevance and encourages younger generations to engage with and perpetuate these invaluable artistic traditions.
